Nearly seven million working 羞羞视频n adults have yet to earn a college credential but already possess the knowledge needed to pass credit-bearing courses. Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) honors that knowledge and allows working adults the credit they deserve to accelerate the completion of a college credential, opening doors to higher wage careers.

What is Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)?

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), is college credit awarded for validated skills and knowledge gained outside of coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education.

Methods of assessing CPL may include but is not limited to:

• Credit By Examination (CBE)
• Joint Services Transcripts (JST) evaluation (military training)
• Portfolio review
• Industry recognized certification evaluation
• Standardized exams

Awarding CPL

CPL may be awarded for course credit, general education area credit, and/or elective credit. Colleges should prioritize awarding CPL as course credit, which preserves the most transfer options. When course credit is not possible or appropriate, GE area or elective credit may be awarded. Certain methods of assessing CPL and applying CPL may reduce a student鈥檚 ability to transfer and may negatively impact their ability to receive financial aid awards. So, it is crucial that prior to awarding any CPL colleges should first provide guidance to students through the counseling process which should include a review of the student鈥檚 CPL plan and transcript.
